Privacy Policy
Dave
Effective 15 October 2026
This policy explains how Dave, developed by Alexander Austin ("we", "us"), handles your information.
What the app stores
Dave is a scorekeeper for the card game Dave. To keep track of your games, it saves the following on your device:
- Saved games: optional game names, the target score (50 or 100) and when each game was created and last played.
- Player names you enter, including your saved "regular" players.
- Round scores and who called Dave in each round.
- App preferences, such as the target score you last chose.
Player names can be whatever you choose to type, such as first names, nicknames or initials. You don't have to use real names.
Where your data goes
Your game data is held in the app's local storage on your device. The app has no user accounts and sends none of your games, players or scores to us or anyone else. We cannot see, access or recover your data.
Advertising
Dave is free and shows a single banner ad at the bottom of the screen. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which needs an internet connection to load them. When an ad is requested, Google may collect and process information such as:
- Your device's advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID or Apple IDFA, where permitted).
- Your IP address, and an approximate location derived from it.
- Device and app information, such as device model, operating system and app version.
- Ad interactions, such as when an ad is shown or tapped, and diagnostic data.
Google uses this information to deliver, measure and improve ads, and to prevent fraud. It may also be used to show you personalised ads where you have allowed this. None of your game data is shared with Google. Google may process this information in countries other than your own. Google handles this information under its own policies; see how Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Where the law requires it, such as in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you will be asked for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change or withdraw that consent at any time in the app under Rules › Ad privacy settings.
Your ad choices
- In the app: if you were asked for ad consent, open Rules › Ad privacy settings to change or withdraw it.
- Android: go to Settings › Google › Ads (or Settings › Privacy › Ads) to delete or reset your advertising ID.
- iOS: go to Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking to stop apps from asking to track you.
- You can manage how Google personalises ads at My Ad Center.
If you opt out of personalisation you may still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you. If your device is offline, no ad is loaded.
What the app does not do
- No analytics or crash reporting of our own.
- No access to your location (GPS), contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
- We do not sell your data, and your game data is never shared with anyone.
Device permissions
The app uses internet access only to load ads. On Android, the Google Mobile Ads SDK also adds the advertising ID permission so ads can be measured and, where you allow it, personalised. The app does not ask for any other permissions.
Backups
Your operating system may include the app's data in device backups (for example, Android or iCloud backup), depending on your device settings. Any such backup is handled by your platform provider under their own privacy policy, not by us.
Data retention and security
Your game data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Because none of it is sent to us, we have no servers holding your data and nothing for us to retain. The data on your device is protected by your operating system's app storage protections. Data collected by Google for advertising is retained and secured by Google under its own privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You can delete saved games and regular players inside the app at any time. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in your device settings, permanently removes all of its data. To manage data Google holds in connection with ads, use the ad settings described above.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Apart from the advertising data described above, the app does not collect personal information from anyone. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, contact us and we will help where we can.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, data protection laws (such as the GDPR in Europe and the UK, POPIA in South Africa, and state privacy laws in the United States) may give you rights to access, correct or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not hold any of your data, there is nothing for us to access or delete on our side, but you can contact us with any request and we will respond. For advertising data held by Google, you can use the ad settings above or Google's privacy controls. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
